What Is Slowing Down Your Metabolism?

Theories may vary on different weight loss approaches, and how your metabolism can be enhanced. You may already know that the faster your metabolism functions, the better your weight loss results are. There are so many ways to naturally boost your metabolism other than metabolism boosting vitamins, but you need to first know about what’s slowing it down:

You’re completely getting rid of your carbs

While taking down your carb intake will help you lose weight, you shouldn’t go completely overboard to cut them down completely. Unless you want to go on a keto diet and eliminate carbs to rely on fat to be in the state of ketosis - every keto food list will have extremely low carb options, carbs can actually be good for you. Your body needs carbs for energy and insulin levels that help maintain your fat burning process. Not all carbs are bad and you can opt for healthier options with an acceptable carb content such as fruits, wholegrains and fiber rich foods like sweet potatoes.

You’re either eating too much protein or too little

Too much protein is no bueno, as extra amounts of protein end up being converted to glucose - which is not something you want. You need a fair amount of protein in your diet for its dietary fibre content which helps you stay full for longer periods of time taking care of your appetite so you don’t feel like craving all kinds of unhealthy carbs. Your protein consumption needs to be in moderation based on your body type; it is recommended you consult a dietitian so you get accurate amounts of what your body needs to consume.

Your love/hate relationship with H2O

We cannot stress this one enough, drinking water the right way - not all at once of course, can effectively wash out all the toxins that have already entered your bloodstream, which in return helps you boost your metabolism and will give you more effective weight loss results. Should you give up water for a bit, you’re likely to face water retention; and when you do go back to your recommended water intake, your body is going to fill up on some temporary water weight which will discourage you to keep going.

You’re not getting enough sleep

Sleeping is your body going into resting mode, and the less you grant your body it’s resting time the more likely it won’t function as you need it to hence slowing down your metabolism. Have you ever heard of fat burn while sleeping? Well, it’s a thing because you do burn calories while you’re hitting your zzz’s. To ensure a healthy metabolic rate, make sure you get between 7-9 hours of sleep every night.

You’re getting spices wrong

A lot of us have had the misconception for a very long time that spices can cause weight gain, and we don’t include them enough in our diets. On the contrary, spices and spicy foods actually help boost your metabolism like there’s no tomorrow. Spices contain powerhouse ingredients that literally spice up your metabolism naturally if you consume them often. It only makes sense that anything that burns your tastebuds a notch would help in your fat burn.

You’re not consuming enough caffeine

If you’re a coffee lover, then you’re already on the right track. If you are not, it’s fine to go for green tea. From the many benefits of green tea is that it contains caffeine which refreshes your nervous system and gets rid of expendable energies which in return helps burn stored fat.
