Group Classes: Which One is Right for you?
- 30/04/2020
Clueless as to which group class you should go for? Totally fine, we’ve all been there! There is no right or wrong answer, it solely depends on what you want to get out of a class and it varies accordingly. There are so many gyms in Amman, it could get overwhelming especially when most of them offer group exercises. Working out in groups is known to be extremely motivational and for the most part entertaining, but depending on your goals is how you need to pick:
Weight loss: Zumba
Zumba is a cardio based dance workout that sheds pounds fast leaving you sore and wanting more. Burning somewhere around 450-650 calories per an hour session, it is considered one of the very effective cardio weight loss workouts as it is constant movements and extremely loud energy. A lot of people actually attend a Zumba class because it's a lot of fun, it is basically a high adrenaline dance class mainly living on intense hip hop beats that make it hard for you to take a break even if you wanted to. When doing Zumba, you’re looking at real fat burn and body sculpting, look at your instructor for motivation. If you are a bit skeptical about group exercise classes, include a Zumba class in your weekly workouts, it’s a win win!
Flexibility: Yoga
This one goes without saying, and is more obvious; probably every single type of yoga you could go for can help you achieve flexibility in your body. During yoga practice, your muscles and ligaments stretch more and more every time. You won’t achieve this from the get-go, but with enough time and practice you will get there, also reaching a point where you can’t live without practicing yoga regularly. Yogi bonus: Every part of your body gets even stronger, and so does your mind - which controls your determination!
Muscle Building: BodyPump
The fancy term for muscle building classes like BodyPump is Barbell and these workouts are dedicated to the more athletic goals you want to achieve; they’re all about right technique and an immense amount of strength. BodyPump burns unwanted fat when you are keen on building muscle in your body, and this can actually be achieved without lifting extremely heavy weights but it is a killer because your dopamine levels will be through the roof and depending on a lot of repetitions. So if that is what you’re after, you could never go wrong with Barbell classes, they will get you your desired shapes and tones of muscles in your body!
Know exactly what you need, and never stop listening to what your body truly needs out of a workout in order to pick which class to attend during the week. It’s also not a bad idea to combine different kinds of group classes in your workout to get the most out of your gym membership! If your main priority is flexibility and you know that it can be achieved with yoga, you won’t go wrong in also attending a few BodyPump classes for strengthening your body further to aid in achieving your goals. While you’re at it, why not throw in a fun cardio class like Zumba to speed things up and make them more amusing! While your focus could be set on one class, it’s completely fine to combine and adjust according to your liking; and if anything sounds interesting and intriguing - go ahead and try them!
